I. SLEPT. ON. THIS. ALBUM. I heard it once before this post and was like "it's igh." I decided to revisit it because I'm going to see Cole Perform at the made in America festival and I didn't wanna be the only one in the audience that didn't know the lyrics. So I was like let me try to at least get the chorus down pack.
I think I didn't like this album the first time around cause I was too hype and this was too mellow. It didn't go with my vibe. But it goes with it now. TRUST. I hate that I didn't pick up the metaphors and gems he was dropping until now. This is something I'm trying to get out of which is judging a book by his or her cover. literally. But old habits die hard.
I didn't plan on my writing about this album but after I heard "neighbors" I knew I needed to speak on it. He's rapping about shit we been going through and are still going through. Racism simply put. I can relate to other songs like she's mine, Ville mentality, & Foldin clothes. The jazz influence throughout the whole album is so calming. The more I listen to this album it's rising on my list of favorite albums. i haven't stopped listening to it since the other day. It really helps me clear my mind for the duration of me listening to the album. I'm now even more excited to see him in Philly now.
